This book is devoted to the mathematical foundations of categorial grammar including type-theoretic foundations of mathematics, grammatical categories and other topics related to categorial grammar and to philosophical and linguistic applications of this framework. The volume consists of three parts. Casadio, C. Semantic categories and the development of categorial grammars. In Categorial grammars and natural language structures. Edited by Richard T. Oehrle, Emmon Bach, and Deirdre Wheeler. Dordrecht, The Netherlands: D. Reidel. E-mail Citation» A philosophical and historical survey of the origins and development of categorial grammar.

Categorial Grammars. Wood, Mary McGee; Hudson, Richard, Ed. Written as an objective critical assessment, this book is the first linguistic theory guide to categorial grammars. Categorial grammars offer a radical alternative to the phrase-structure paradigm, with roots in the philosophy of language, logic, and algebra. Proposing a novel theory of parts of speech, this book discusses categorization from a methodological and theoretical point a view. It draws on discoveries and insights from a number of approaches - typology, cognitive grammar, notional approaches, and generative grammar - and presents a generative, feature-based theory.

(CCG; Steedman ; ) and Type-Logical Categorial Grammar (TLCG; or “Type-LogicalGrammar”;Morrill;Moortgat;Kubota&Levine).1 After presenting the “core” component of CG that is shared between the two approaches—which is commonly referred to as the AB Grammar—I introduce. Based on an introductory course on natural-language semantics, this book provides an introduction to type-logical grammar and the range of linguistic phenomena that can be handled in categorial grammar. It also contains a great deal of original work on categorial grammar and its application to natural-language semantics. The author chose the type-logical categorial grammar .

In categorial grammar, expressions are classified by structured types. The set of types is the recursive closure of a set of atomic types under a number of type-constructors, so that types are algebraic terms like arithmetic expressions or logical formulas. The rules of categorical grammar are supposed to express the laws obeyed by the types according to the ‘meaning’ of.

This book presents an account of certain problems of morphological analysis that occurs within a theoretical framework that derives its inspiration from recent studies of the lexicon in generative grammar. The starting point is the controversy about the proper analysis of synthetic compounds.
